Leadership that Listens by Ethan Bradley

Growing up in Putnam County I have always appreciated the historic and natural beauty that permeates this land and its brick laden streets. But for some that beauty is being threatened by financial struggles, healthcare insecurities, and a lack of transparency by our elected officials.

I have been investigating the East Palatka data center, a project being marketed forGilbert Road that could impact over 1,300 acres, with over 700 of those acres being wetlands and buffer zones that help filter water entering our aquifer. In one of the poorest counties in Florida, we are often told that massive developments like this are a "miracle" for the tax base. These projects risk draining our local water table, raising power bills for regular families, and disrupting the peace and quiet of the surrounding areas. Some studies indicate the so-called data center hum can be heard from up to two miles away. All this to cool thousands of computer servers, while providing next to no benefit to the people of Putnam County.I am supporting Joshua C. Florence for County Commissioner in District 4. becauseJosh is the one who originally brought this data center project to my attention - and it is exactly the kind of issue he shows up for. He understands that our environment and our economy are tied together. He has a unique ability to make people feel heard and understood. When he talks to you, he isn’t just waiting for his turn to speak, he is genuinely interested in what you are saying no matter who you are and values your opinion. He also cares about the issues that matter to all of us. Healthcare, sustainable jobs, and protecting the water we drink are all top priorities. Standing up for his community isn’t something new for Josh either. He has proven his willingness to do so for this community over a dedicated and decorated career as a firefighter and healthcare administrator. Joshua was recognized as Florida's Volunteer Firefighter of the Year by the Florida State Legislator, and he helped establish a paramedic program in Melrose in 2019. He has helped our residents through some of the hardest times in their lives, and now he is ready to bring that same level of commitment to the Putnam Counties Board of County Commissioners

Putnam County deserves a commissioner who shows up before the cameras do. Joshua Florence already is.
